The Parade Leaves Morley Town Hall (by Ian Grey)

This year's Morley Saint George Festival had the biggest parade to date which can be viewed using the you tube browser above.

The Scouts could not attend the event as they were in Leeds celebrating their centenary.

At Scatcherd Lane a number of events took place, where visitors included Morley favourite, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Dr Ingrid Roscoe FSA, Dr Roscoe made a special visit to Morley following an earlier engagement in Leeds City Centre.

Also present was the Mayor of South Kirby and Moorthorpe and the Lord Mayor of the City of Durham, both of whom thoroughly enjoyed  their  visit to Morley.

As always the Bowmen of Adel proved popular with their annual St George Low Bow Competition, the winner of the golden arrow  being Julia Madeline, the Mother of Morley News Hound,  Erica Madeline.

Competitors battle it out for the Golden Arrow which is provided a by the Royal Armouries in Leeds.  All longbow archers from both the UK and abroad are welcome to take part.

Each year the event attracts more competitors.

The main arena event this year was a battle re-enactment performed by the Earl of Manchester's regiment of the Sealed Knot.

Others attending the event included the Homefront living exhibition, telling of Wartime Britain in England.

Other living exhibitions attended the event and gave demonstrations on how people used to live.

Popular as ever were the birds of prey, delivering demonstrations in the main arena.

There was plenty to do for the young people this year with a Fancy Dress Competition themed around "Knights, Dragons and Princesses".

Also present was Colin the Dragon, a piņata which caused much amusement and fun for the Children who tried to break it open to retrieve the sweets which had earlier been placed inside.

Also new this year was the Sword and the Stone, strongman competition which attracted a large gathering.  The Punch and Judy show proved popular with young and old alike.
